EVDC Chargers

EVDC series are Direct Current Fast Chargers (DCFC), often called Level 3 EV chargers. DC fast chargers are currently the fastest charging option available for electric vehicles, they use commercial grade AC power which is converted within the charger into DC power to then distribute directly to the vehicle's battery, and as the power is already converted to DC, it makes it possible to deliver more power, faster. DC fast charging stations are the ideal choice for locations where EVs must gain the maximum range in the shortest possible time. EVESCO’s DC fast chargers deliver true simultaneous EV charging and can charge two electric vehicles at the same time through intelligent power splitting. If one car uses the charging station, it will receive up to the full kW power; if a second vehicle starts to use the other charging cable, the power will be split between the two cars. The EVDC series of EV chargers have OCPP 1.6 and ISO 15118 compliance, multiple connectivity levels, and various user interaction options. With a wide voltage output range from 300 to lOOOVdc these chargers can effectively charge electric vehicles utilizing both 400V and 800V architectures.

Stationary & Reliable DC fast chargers

Classification systems differ between Europe and North America:  

  • Europe uses more nuanced mode classification while North America tends to rely more heavily on level classifications.
  • Europe generally utilizes Type 2 and CCS connector types while North America typically favors J1772, CCS, Tesla Superchargeror SAE J1772, CCS, or CHAdeMO standards for connector types (whereas Europe typically utilizes IEC 61851 Type 2).

These variations reflect each region’s distinct development paths and technological preferences for EV charging infrastructure. As the EV market expands, common standards will become ever more essential to ensure ease of charging for drivers of EVs.

European and North American electric vehicle chargers differ substantially in many respects, from classification systems and connector types to communication protocols and standards and voltage standards.

The US follows the current CCS SAE standard, while in Europe they use CCS. The European power system starts at a higher voltage (nothing less than 220 V) and for higher power levels it uses a 3-phase power even in residential settings.

The US starts with 120 Volt which is limited to just under 2 kW delivered. It also has the SAE setting the standards. What the US calls Level 1 – in Europe would be a 10 Amp circuit at 220/230 Volts. In the US Level 2 can be at 208 and 240 single phases, or in non-residential settings 208 / 480 3 phase connections with up to 5 wires.
